  • Five stars!

At first it seemed similar to hunger games but with a few differences. After reading the entire book it is just as riveting but all on its own, without the similarities. This is a wonderful book and I can’t wait for the second one to come out in April

I'm blind. It's so frustrating to find yet another in a long line of blind characters who is portrayed inaccurately. This one at least has some individuality, but is still written as helpless, in need of protection, and musically talented because she is blind. She can only move with confidence in her house, and is otherwise lead around by her arm. When we use a sighted guide, we hold the sighted person's elbow not the other way around; and we often don't because, shocker, we use our canes and get around all by ourselves. Another helpless blind songbird in the role of inspirational supporting character shouldn't disappoint me at this point but it does. It's 2018 and knowledge is just a google search or three away. Do better.
