Praise for Something in the Water

“Arresting . . . deftly paced, elegantly chilly . . . [Catherine] Steadman brings . . . wit, timing and intelligence to this novel. . . . Something in the Water is a proper page-turner.”The New York Times

“With unreliable characters, wry voices, exquisite pacing, and a twisting plot, Steadman potently draws upon her acting chops. . . . A darkly glittering gem of a thriller from a new writer to watch.”Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

“Captivating . . . daring . . . The threats and increasingly bad decisions accelerate with Bourne-like velocity. . . . Steadman [is] a newcomer worth watching.”Publishers Weekly

“An unbearably tense debut with a knockout premise, Something in the Water had me hooked from the very first sentence. Thrilling and thought-provoking, it’s the perfect beach read. I devoured it!”—Riley Sager, bestselling author of Final Girls

A first person narrative by a not so bright, narcissistic, selfish, main character with few values, it is slow developing with inadequate character development beyond the main character rendering the implausible plot twist inexplicable. I am dumber for having read it.

It’s always iffy holding a writer’s first book in your hands, but this one is astonishingly good. I had to keep myself from jumping ahead in my mind to finish the storyline, and I couldn’t because she always tweaked it one-off from my imagination. I can see how it will make an excellent movie as it reads somewhat like a screenplay, and there’s nothing wrong with that, since she is an actress, too. I am looking forward to more books from Ms. Fox...

Great read that kept me up late at night. Loved Erin. Loved the settings in the book. Bora Bora, England. A thriller and a love story that surprises at the ending. Keep writing!

The main character is kind of dumb, so much so that she’s unlikable. I was so bored that I didn’t even care how it ended. The best part of the book was the first chapter and that’s it.

Plot was not credible. I will not list all the plot twists that were not plausible, so as to not ruin it for others, who might believe that anything they read is possible.
